A Holt Picture Book. this is like a large magazine. As you can see in the cover photo, it is in very poor condition. But the inside pages are wonderful! The only damage to the inside pages is some loss on the corners and faint water stains/mold....nothing like the covers. And when you consider the contents.....hundreds of uncommon photos and informative text, you can be forgiving of the cover...this is not an often-found book/magazine!
"This is Ike has one purpose: to inform you visually about Dwight D. Eisenhower. It is the first book, so far as the authors know, to reveal a presidential candidate in a detailed photobiographic form. Past presidents--Wilson, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, Roosevelt, Truman--were in office before enough pictures of them existed to enable US citizens to appraise them by means of that other dimension which photographs, alone, make possible.
Eisenhower, on the other hand, has been photographed thousands of times. From these thousands of pictures, here are presented over 250 that tell the most about the man, his family, his background, his work, his play, his wife, his son, his joys, his sorrows.
This book is not an attempt to tell you what kind of a President Eisenhower would make. It is not intended to be a campaign book, but rather an objective study. There are many facts about Eisenhower that you know or can find elsewhere, and many of these facts have been omitted. But because so many photographs of Ike exist, and because he is so "photograph-able", we think these pictures provide a multiple portrait of the man that will enable you to make a valuable estimate of him. This is Ike.
